Both servers are 1U units with efficient, redundant power supplies, Dual Processors and multiple hard disks but each one fills a specific role.
The R410 is a perfect server for those looking for a very high performance system. The R410 comes with all the latest X, E and L series Intel Xeon processors, up to 64Gb RAM and four 3.5” hard drive bays for up to 4Tb of JBOD disk space. For management the R410 has the option of onboard DRAC (Dell Remote Access Card) which allows KVM and power access to your server at BIOS level regardless of the state of your server.
The Dell Poweredge R610 builds on the R410 by adding more capability to the system. Specifically designed with Virtualization software in mind, the R610 comes with the option of pre-installed hypervisor software as well as four onboard gigabit network cards for more IO bandwidth. The R610 also can take up to six 2.5” hard drives up to 300Gb, and to show its green credentials there is also the option of installing low power enterprise grade SSD (Solid State Disk) of 25 or 50Gb. The R610 can also take the same processors as the R410, but increases the memory capability up to 96Gb RAM ~ making this the ideal server for virtualization.

Upgrade your old 1U Server and get up to speed with the latest Dell Blade Solution

POBox Hosting is now installing Dell Poweredge M1000E chassis using Poweredge M600 Intel Blade servers as standard.
Whilst 1U servers are easy to rack, configure and maintain ~ in a 42U rack you can only effectively manage 32 x 1U servers due to the maximum amount of IPKVM modules and power connections available. In a 42U rack, it is possible (with the right switch modules in the back of a Dell Blade Chassis) to have a total of 64 servers, giving much better density of servers for your 42U of rackspace even leaving 2U for switches!
In addition, the Dell Blade Chassis has six high efficiency power supplies which can power the entire chassis and can run on less if required (more for redundancy, less for power saving). Inside each M600 Blade we use small form factor 2.5” SAS disks which are always set up with RAID1 for redundancy. Intel Xeon L5410 quad core processors are used running at 2.33Ghz with 2x6Mb Cache, each using only 50w of power.

From 11th August SQL server 2008 will available from POBox Hosting for our Dedicated Server and PayGo platforms.
Microsoft SQL server 2008 is the next revision of microsoft's powerful database application and with SQL server 2008 many new features have been introduced, such as transparent data encryption, comprehensive auditing as well as many productivity tools!

Despite appearing to be last to join the environmental bandwagon, POBox Hosting has been working behind the scenes for several years now to reduce the environmental consequences of running an ISP in this day and age.
Since 2003 we have been working closely with manufacturers such as Dell, Sun and Apple who provide servers for our customers and have been active in our efforts to encourage them to invest in the latest power efficient technologies, such as low voltage chips, lower power GREEN hard drives and efficient power supplies.
This has resulted in our new datacentre racks using less power than our first and second generation racks!
Small UK company pips Sun at the post

POBox Hosting a small UK based hosting company has beaten its much larger rival Sun Microsystems to the post with its grid computing rental.
POBox Hosting first introduced hourly server rental last November to accommodate easy access to the server marketplace for entry level hosting customers.
Tim Poultney, Managing Director said: "Our solution has been running for a year with the latest addition being an online server build system. Our PayGo solution enables customers to rent a server by the hour for 50p, or run as a monthly or yearly contracted service as required. Signup is done online, and the ordered server is delivered within minutes of completion"
